Jessica Brown has been surrounded by artists for her entire life, so it was natural that she would be drawn to pursue a career as an artist. Her late mother, late grandmother, aunt, cousin and brother are all professional artists that have excelled in everything from drawing and painting to glassblowing. Jessica has dabbled in most of these artistic paths throughout her lifetime but found her niche in the world of metalsmithing in 2010, designing and creating one of a kind metal jewelry pieces. She has completed several courses at the Tacoma Metal Arts Center in Tacoma, Washington where she continues to hone her skills and learn new techniques on a regular basis.
Jessica's inspiration for her jewelry designs comes from her love of the ocean and the sea glass and shells she has collected from Hawaii, California and Washington coastlines. Her sea glass collection was the reason for beginning metalsmithing classes because she wanted to showcase the aesthetics of each piece of sea glass in a work of art that can be worn.
Jessica only uses sea glass that she has personally collected or that has been found by friends or family. Each unique piece of jewelry is designed around the sea glass that is used in its natural form in which it was found that has never been altered. Jessica also uses shells, beach stones and semiprecious stones in her designs.
Jessica currently lives in Olympia, Washington with her son, Grayson and their two cats. She enjoys spending time with friends and family, traveling, running, yoga, painting, gardening and many other outdoor activities.
